Welcome to the BELIEF-EELA e-Infrastructures Conference

The European & Latin American e-Infrastructures conference was held at the Hotel Glória, Rio de Janiero, Brazil from the 25 - 28 June 2007 co-organised by the Belief (Bringing Europe’s eLectronic Infrastructures to Expanding Frontiers ) and the EELA project (e-Infrastructures shared between Europe and Latin America).

The aim was to exchange views on how e-Infrastructures are currently deployed in both Europe and in Latin America and to generate innovation and economic growth, to create safer, more prosperous societies with the objective of analysing how their increasing role is viewed in a business, educational, socio-political & scientific context.

The four-day event looked at promoting the sustained use of the EU-Latin America link (GEANT2 connectivity) and its use by new user communities.

Audience

The rich, and diverse four-day programme specifically targeted Industry and Research experts and new users wishing to adopt e-Infrastructures effectively within their workplace or research activity.

The most influential European and Latin American business leaders, researchers and regulators discussed technological advances and explored current and future e-Infrastructure’s landscape of the two regions. The event brought together more than *110 participants*, 70% Latin America, 30% Europe; 60% research 30% businesses, 10% government with an equal balance between European and Latin American speakers.
